Floods and rain can pollute water supplies with toxins pulled from the ground, from standing bodies of water, and from vehicles in a flood. Lake Oswego has observed water-borne disasters in nearby areas and has installed a portable water purifier system capable of dispensing up to 30,000 gallons of drinkable water a day in an emergency. The portable water purifier system can disinfect, clean, and improve the taste of water, which residents can then use to fill jugs and other containers, ensuring a source of drinking water even when the local water system has been compromised. While this portable water purifier system would not be able to handle all of the town's water needs, it would be a stop-gap solution for a few days while workers remediated the water supply in the pipes.
